Webinar Series for Behavioral Health Directors
Community Health Centers (CHCs) play a critical role in providing outpatient mental health and substance use disorder services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries in many communities, especially for the expansion population. In fact, since 2010 CHCs have increased mental health encounters by 154%! As health centers continue to transform care and focus on the patient's whole health, they will need high functioning behavioral health departments with strong leaders anchoring the department.
Webinar 1 - Growing a Robust Behavioral Health Department
One of a health center's most valuable resource is its care provider network. Without a healthy and committed workforce, health centers cease to have sufficient access to meet patient demand for timely appointments or providers with the skill set to treat specific illnesses. In today's healthcare environment, with workforce shortages in almost every profession, many organizations struggle to build and maintain a provider profile that is diverse, comprehensive, and responsive.
The first in our webinar series will identify barriers to recruiting and retaining behavioral health providers, and strategies to mitigate those challenges. This webinar will also explore the common challenges faced by behavioral health leaders in providing necessary clinical supervision and support for their department while balancing patient care and administrative responsibilities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Strategies to support Behavioral Health provider learning, development, growth and wellbeing, while balancing patient care and administrative responsibilities;
- Proactive recruitment strategies from non-healthcare industries;
- How to determine the 'right' number of behavioral health providers and staff;
- Recruitment and on-boarding strategies to ensure fit; and,
- Strategies for supervisors to balance their clinical caseload, administrative responsibilities, and supervision requirements, including for remote staff.
PRESENTERS
- Michael Mabanglo, PhD, Senior Consultant, Health Management Associates
- Elizabeth Morrison, LCSW, MAC, Principal Consultant, EM Consulting
